Yelich Homers, Cain Makes Game Saving Catch in Opening Day win for Brewers

The reigning NL MVP Christian Yelich blasted a three-run home run, and Lorenzo Cain came up with a game-saving catch as the Brewers downed the Cardinals 5-4 at Miller Park on Opening Day. Milwaukee fell behind 3-0 in the second inning, after starter Jhoulys Chacin gave up back-to-back home runs to Kolton Wong and Harrison Bader. The Moose would answer for The Crew in the home half of the frame, sending a solo shot to center to make it 3-1. With two on and one out in the third - Yelich sent a 413 foot shot to center field to put the Brewers in front for good. Chacin would then help his cause in the fifth with a solo home run. The Cardinals would answer, when Wong hit his second homer of the day to lead off the seventh - making the score 5-4. Josh Hader struck out the side in the eighth, and in the ninth had two outs with Jose Martinez at the plate. Martinez sent a high fly ball to center field - where Lorenzo Cain made a leaping catch to seal the win.

Chacin earned the win, giving up three runs on three hits in 5 & ⅓ innings with seven strikeouts. Miles Mikolas took the loss - giving up five runs in five innings. Game two of the series is Friday - Freddy Peralta goes for Milwaukee with St. Louis countering with Jack Flaherty. First pitch is 7:10 pm.
