Zakos Steps Down

Last night’s game will be the last on the bench at Fond du Lac for boys basketball coach Adam Zakos.  The coach told his team last week that he would not be returning next season.  He says he has been very fortunate to coach at Fond du Lac for the last eight years and has coached great kids from top to bottom.  Zakos says he will always be very appreciative for getting the opportunity to coach and he looks forward to seeing Fond du Lac do great things in the future.  Zakos says the decision comes down to he wasn’t happy with what he was doing and it was time for him to change things. Zakos does say he hopes to coach again sometime in the future. During his eight seasons at Fondy, Zakos’ teams went 77-115.

I feel the same way. Hopefully, the WIAA will get the alignment done the way it should be for everybody including Menasha, the Green Bay area, Appleton area, us, Sheboygan and West Bend as well. Then everyone will be happy. I don't want to mention that Menasha has to travel to Marinette this fall for Football and Basketball. It's not right but leave it to the fall meetings again for more talk.

This is the way I'd do the Fox Valley Association -

Appleton East
Appleton North
Appleton West
Fond du Lac
Oshkosh North
Oshkosh West

It makes more sense for all sports than putting us out to Marshfield, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln. The above schools would make a good group plus 2 openings for Non-Conference. Kaukauna and Kimberly would move to the New Bay Conference with Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, De Pere, Manitowoc and Pulaski. The other Conference would be renamed The Fox RIver Valley Conference which will have Menasha, Green Bay East and Green Bay West with Clintonville moving over from the Eastern Valley. Seymour, New London, Shawano and West De Pere would be part of this group as well. Think about it people - Don't it make geographic sense. Look at the cost of Gas for Buses and Maintenance Costs. Travel would be reasonable distances. No more than 1 hour in any direction. I'll leave it up to our Superintendant's and Athletic Directors.

Adam I will miss you. You were always kind. I especially remember you saying Hi at the Food Drive last Memorial Day.
