Alice M. Promen

Alice M. Promen, 96, a resident of Fond du Lac, passed away January 23, 2014 at the St. Francis Terrace.

She was born September 26, 1917 in Fond du Lac, a daughter of the late Leo and Estelle Bowen Stenz.

On September 25, 1943 she married Robert Promen at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fond du Lac.

Alice was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Grade School, Fond du Lac Senior High School, class of 1935. She attended the College of St. Catherine, Minneapolis, Prospect Hall, Milwaukee, and Marian College, Fond du Lac. She worked at First Federal Saving and Loan, a business her father founded. During World War II, she worked at Giddings & Lewis in the shell plant. While raising her family, she was involved in many community and service clubs, as a member and officer of several including, St. Joseph’s Home and School, Sigma, Service League, Fond du Lac Area Foundation, along with other community organizations.

Survivors include one son, Dale R. Promen of Fond du Lac, one daughter, Mary (Peter) Lindquist of Sylvania, OH, a sister-in-law, Barbara Promen of Columbus, OH, cousins, Floyd, Ken, Don, and Louise Bowen, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert on April 21, 2009, a son John B. Promen on December 1, 2012, a brother, Dale (Liz) Stenz and a cousin, Bob Bowen.

Visitation: Visitation will be held on Sunday January 26, 2014 from 12:00 noon until 4:00 PM at the Zacherl Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held on Monday, at the St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, from 1:30 to 2:15 PM.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday January 27, 2014, 2:30 PM at the St. Francis Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the Fond du Lac Area Foundation or Holy Family Parish.
