Anthony Bernard May

Anthony Bernard May, 93, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac, WI.

He was born the son of Henry and Anna Hackenmiller May on October 2, 1920 in Meyer, Iowa.

He married the love of his life Jean Catherine Stollenwerk on February 20, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Church in Fond du Lac by Msgr. Henry G. Riordan.

Tony retired from Sears, Roebuck & Co. after 36 years of service.

He was a veteran of World War II serving as a Sergeant in the European theater in the OSS during the Battle of the Bulge.

Tony was a member the Knights of Columbus Council 664, and the American Legion Post 75- Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1904. He was a faithful volunteer for Hospice Hope in Fond du Lac for over 26 years, Loaves and Fishes for 15 years, was a past president of Holy Name Society as St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fond du Lac and St. Peter Catholic Church in St. Peter, Wisconsin. Tony was past president of the Church Counsel at St. Peter and taught CCD there.

He loved playing cards, golfing, and bowling and was active in their sports, up until this last spring. His greatest past time was spending time with his family. He was a humble simple man who brought joy to those around him.

Survivors include Judith, Daniel (Susan), Patricia Jones and son-in-law Kerry McGrath of Fond du Lac; Donald (Debra) of Bayside, Wisconsin, Mary Reding of Rochester, Minnesota, Sandra Hoover of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Christine (Patrick) Schillinger of De Pere, Wisconsin. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Jean on September 16, 1997 after 47 years of marriage, a son David Joseph who passed away at birth and lost his daughter Barbara Jean McGrath this past August.

Visitation: Family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday July 2, 2014 at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.  There will also be visitation at Holy Family Church, 271 Fourth Street Way, on Thursday July 3, 2014, 9:30 to 10:45 AM.

Service:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday July 3, 2014, 11:00 AM at Holy Family Church. Entombment will be in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
