Bernice A. Hatch

Bernice A. Hatch passed away
on August 6, 2015, at the age of 96, at Tower View Villa, Rosendale.

 

Bernice Adeline Wegner, born
July 13, 1919, was the youngest of five children and only daughter to Edward
Bernard Wegner and Lydia Louise Rosenthal Wegner of Van Dyne.

 

In 1935, at the age of 16,
Bernice was runner up in the first Alice
in Dairyland contest.  She married James
Balcom Hatch of Rosendale on June 26, 1940, at the Evangelical United
Brethren Church
,
Van Dyne, with Rev. Robert Boettcher officiating.  They renewed their vows on their 50th
wedding at the same place with the same minister officiating. 

 

During World War II, she was
employed in the dry goods department of JC Penney Co., Fond du Lac, and later, seasonally, in the
canteen of the Green Giant Co., Rosendale. 
For the most part, she was a stay-at-home mom.  She was a member of and, until recent years,
active in the United Church of Christ, Rosendale.  Bernice was a very capable seamstress and
shared her talents with her church and as a leader with the local 4H.  She also enjoyed quilting and crocheting.

 

Except for the first few of
their 52 years together, they lived in Rosendale, and in 1949, they built their
home on Main Street
where she resided until moving to Tower View Villa in July, 2011.  Jim preceded her in death on November 16,
1992.

 

She is survived by her
daughters:  Mary Louise (Donald) Hinds of
Fairfield Glade, TN, and Priscilla Ann (Dan) Yohann of Fond du Lac;
grandchildren:  Dawn (Jim DeLap) Hinds of
Oshkosh, Darcie Hinds of Greenville, Dustin (Michelle Krokstrom) Hinds of
Allenville, Aaron (Jena) Yohann of Sun Prairie, and Corrine (Michael) Yohann
Bundy of West Salem; great-grandsons: 
Dean “DJ” Hinds of Oshkosh and Mason Aaron Yohann of Sun Prairie;
great-granddaughters:  Bailey and Kerstyn
Krokstrom of Allenville; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Hatch of Rosendale; plus
several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

She was preceded in death by
her parents, husband, four brothers and their wives:  Roland (Marion),
Nelson (Lilian), Clarence (Mabel), and Lester (Marion); a brother-in-law, Loyd Hatch; and a
sister-in-law, Loa Bernice Hatch Reitsma; brother-in-law, James Robert Reitsma;
and brother-in-law, Loyd Hatch.

 

The funeral service will be
held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Rosendale United Church of
Christ, 204 West Division Street,
Rosendale.

 

Bernice’s family will receive
friends and relatives on Thursday at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time
of service.

 

Burial will be in Rosendale Cemetery.

 

The family wishes to thank
Barbara Sullivan and the entire staff of Tower View Villa for the compassionate
care Bernice received while she resided at Tower View Villa.
