Carl A. Gebhart

Carl A. Gebhart, age 85, of Chilton, died on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Chilton. He was born February 18, 1931 in the Town of Charlestown, son of the late Otto and Marie (Hoffman) Gebhart.



Carl served his country in the United States Army from November 19, 1951 to August 18, 1953 during the Korean War. Early in his life, Carl worked for Leverenz Shoe Factory where he met his beloved Margaret A. Schmitz. They were married on October 21, 1953 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2016. Together, they made their home in St. Nazianz where they began farming and he also worked part-time for Miller Implement. In 1961, they decided to move their family to Chilton, where they made their home and raised seven children. Upon moving to Chilton, Carl began working at the Chilton Malting Co. until his retirement. Following his retirement, he drove school bus for several years for the Chilton School District.



Carl and Margaret loved to spend time together whenever they could. They enjoyed going dancing together on Saturday nights with other couples, and they never passed up a trip to Oneida. He was a member of Chilton American Legion Post # 125, Chilton Eagles Club, Knights of Columbus, Chilton VFW Post 3153, and AA. Carl enjoyed playing a round of cards, spending time with his family, and woodworking in his earlier years.



Survivors include his children: Dale (Mary) Gebhart, Duane Gebhart, Charles Gebhart & his special friend, Cindy, all of Wisconsin, Daniel (Dana) Gebhart of Nevada, Laure (Lee) Lemke & Carla (Russell) Bass both of Glencoe, MN; a son-in-law: Phil Augustyn of Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Dolores (Eloy) Kasper; a brother, Donald (Ellen) Gebhart; 2 sisters-in-law: Helen Reinl & Frances Ninmer, both of New Holstein; a brother-in-law, Edward Schmitz; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.



In addition to his parents and wife, Margaret, of 62 years, Carl was preceded in death by his daughter; Carleen Augustyn; two sisters, Mary Ann (George) Cullen and Rita Schmitz; his sisters-in-law; Genrose (Gregory) Schwarz, Marion Schmitz, Agnes (Melvin) Hanke; and his brothers-in-law: Jerome Reinl & Willard Ninmer.



Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday May 14, 2016 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating. Entombment will be in the Knollwood Mausoleum in Manitowoc. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, May 13, 2016 and on Saturday at the funeral home from 9:30 am until 10:30 am. Friday evening, at the close of visitation, The Rosary will be prayed, followed by a parish vigil service.



A memorial fund has been established in the name of Carl A. Gebhart.
