Charles William Burg

Charles William Burg, age 93, died on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Chilton. Known to many as Charles Burg from Charlesburg, he was born January 24, 1922 in Fond du Lac, son of the late William & Frances (Broeckel) Burg.

Charles proudly served this great nation from 1942 to 1946 in the United States Army in the WWII both in the Pacific Theater and state side. Following his honorable discharge, he married Myra Fischer on October 16, 1946 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton. Throughout their nearly 52 years of marriage, the couple enjoyed each other’s company, especially arm in arm on the dance floor polkaing well into the night.

He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 65 of Chilton and American Legion Post #124 in New Holstein. Charles was a former member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Charlesburg and was a current member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marytown. For many years, he had worked for Thielman Cheese Factory in Charlesburg. When the cheese factory burned down, Charles began working at Tecumseh Products until his retirement in 1986.

Charles was an avid woodworker, gardener and bird watcher. He could also do a great imitation of a train whistle which came in handy while trying to impress the grandchildren. Although he was no longer able to go dancing, Charles enjoyed watching polka dancing shows on television each weekend. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that upon Charles’ entrance into heaven, he and Myra kicked up their heels as though no time had passed between them on the dance floor.

Survivors include his children: Karen Goodacre of Charlesburg, Christine Niquette of New Holstein, Cynthia (Richard) Bales of Amberg; a daughter-in-law: Karen Burg of Kiel; 9 grandchildren: Tim (Robin) Champeau, Amanda (Tom) Krempley, Adam Niquette, Wes (Heather) Goodacre, Matt Goodacre, Jackie (David) Charles, Randy (Jamie) Burg, Rick (Crystal) Bales, Alicia Bales; 12 great grandchildren: Morgan, Lauren, Taylor, Caeley, Zack, Gail, Paige, Carter, Thomas, Myra, Calvin & Azia; a brother: Sylvester Burg of Kentucky; and a sister-in-law: Janet Just of Colorado.
