Donald Wagner

Donald E.
Wagner, 90, passed away on June 11, 2017 at St. Francis Home. He was born on
March 23, 1927 in Ripon, WI to Thomas E. and Ella P. Wagner.


Don enlisted
in the United States Marine Corps in January of 1945. He achieved the rank of 
Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corps’ 5th Field Supply and served in
the Pacific during World War II. On March 6, 1954 he married Eileen B. Smith at
the Church of Peace.

In 2015 Don
traveled with 50 other veterans on an Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington D.C.


Don was a Boy
Scout leader, a Member of the FDL Horseshoe Club, Lodge 1947 Machinist Union,
Broken Bread and a Member of the Marine Corps League – McCullen-Kimpel
Detachment 552 of Fond du Lac. Don worked at Mercury Marine for 40 years as a
machinist, retiring in 1992.


Don was an
avid pool player, playing often at the Senior Center. He enjoyed fishing, playing
cards, pitching horseshoes and traveling.


Don’s
survivors include his wife, Eileen; two daughters Darleen “DoBee”(Dave) Kobs of
Fond du Lac and Kitty (Rick) Scherer of Sheboygan Falls; one son Thomas Wagner
of Houston, TX and one granddaughter Jennifer Scherer of Madison.


Don was
preceded in death by his parents and four sisters Harriett Smasel, Clarabelle
Werdin, Mabel Caswell and Eve Hein.


Visitation:
Don’s family will receive relatives and friends at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E.
Division St., Fond du Lac, on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM.


Service: A
funeral service will be celebrated at 1:00 PM at the funeral home following
visitation on Friday, June 16, 2017. Burial with full military honors will be
at Ledgeview Memorial Park.
