Dorothy A. (Roy) Matteson

Dorothy A. (Roy) Matteson died peacefully on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Grancare Nursing Home.  She was 99. Dorothy was born November 21, 1913 in Fond du Lac, WI.  She married Ralph Matteson at St. Patrick’s Church on January 22, 1949.  Together they raised three children.  Ralphs’s son Jim followed by Mary and Bob.  They had a loving partnership until Ralph’s death in October of 1987.  Dorothy served as bookkeeper for Matteson Communications for 29 years retiring along with Ralph in 1978.

Dorothy had a lifelong love for the written word.  She enjoyed reading and writing both poetry and prose.  She used her talents to write and narrate many productions at St. Patrick’s and Sacred Heart Churches.  She was the voice of many events with her husband, Ralph providing his technical expertise on the sound system.  Together they shared a love of fishing and enjoyed many day trips to their favorite spots.  Dorothy was also an avid card maker for many years.  Dorothy was a charter member of Sacred Heart Parish and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Faith Builders Bible study group.

Friends and family know how much Dorothy loved her Lord, her family and a good chuckle.  Her wit and wisdom will be remembered and shared for years to come.  In her final months she still enjoyed her chocolate and a good hug.  She was especially fond of a little doggie visitor named Milo.

Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Mary Bohlman and her husband, John of Iola WI and their children, Jenni Dalton and her husband Shannon of Schofield; Daniel and her wife, Molly, of San Louis Obispo, CA: Thomas, of Fond du Lac; a son, Bob of Fond du Lac and his sweetheart, Linde Misurelli and Bob’s children, Michael and his wife, Andi of Fond du Lac and Joshua of Madison.

She is further survived by Jim’s children, Marie and her husband, Bret of Bellingham, WA; Tim and his wife, Mary of Gilbert, AZ and Jon and his wife, Michelle of Fond du Lac.  Dorothy is also survived by nine great grandchildren; a niece, Liz Roy; a nephew, Peter Roy and dear friends Bev and Ken Fisher.

In addition to her husband, Ralph, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her step-son, Jim and his wife, Darlene; her parents Peter and Agnes (Gratzke) Roy and her brothers Owen Roy and his wife, Billie and George Roy and his wife, Kay.

Dorothy’s family wishes to acknowledge and thank her loving, supportive caregivers who made her wish to be in her own home as long as possible a reality.  JoAnne Ziegler was her wonderful companion and caregiver for over 20 years.  Dorothy always said she believe in angels because she had them living all around her in the person of the Rogers and Nellessen families.  Your care, compassion and generous spirits filled Dorothy’s final years with laughter and hugs.  We are eternally grateful for the special bond she shared with each of you.  Her family also wishes to thank Mary Breister and the staff at Tarfa Terrace and Grancare for their loving care in Dorothy’s final months.
