Dwayne W. (Ding) Garfoot

Dwayne W. (Ding) Garfoot, Sr. 80, of Campbellsport, died February 28, 2015, at St. Joseph Hospital, West Bend, with family members at his bedside. He was born in Richland Center, the son of Clayton and Laura (Danz) Garfoot and lived in that area most of his life, moving to Campbellsport in 2012 due to health issues. He lived at Ivy Manor Assisted Living in Campbellsport until recently, moving to Kettle Moraine Gardens in Kewaskum.

Dwayne graduated in 1953 from DeVry College, formerly DeForest Training School of Chicago, with a degree in Television and Radio Servicing. He owned and operated a portable feed mill for many years, serving farmers in Dane and surrounding counties. He worked for the village of Black Earth as Public Works Director, retiring in 1999 after 27 years of service. Dwayne was a member of the Black Earth Fire Department for 42 years and served as Chief from 1972 to 1988. He proudly served as the Grand Marshall of the Black Early Field Days in 2013. Dwayne was a genuine public servant to the Black Earth Area and devoted countless hours helping the community grow and serving proudly in the Fire Department.

Dwayne enjoyed watching birds while at the assisted living facilities and watching CNN and American Pickers. Most importantly, Dwayne was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved to “kid” family and friends and always had a comeback to those who would engage with him. When asked if he wanted to do something, his favorite phrase was “whatever blows up your skirt”.

Dwayne is survived by his sons, Dwayne (Roxanne) Garfoot, Jr. of Campbellsport, Steven (Colonda) Garfoot of Portage and Michael Garfoot (Marie Aeschlimann) of Black Earth; special friend Kitty Garfoot of Black Earth and her daughter, Cathy (Jody) of Black Earth and son, Kenny (Deb) Severson of McFarland and Cathy & Jody’s son, Casey Campbell; his grandchildren, Mark Garfoot (Michelle Ramsdell), Kevin (Ginger) Garfoot, Scott Feuerhammer, Keegan Garfoot, Kaitlyn Garfoot (special friend Josh Luther), Scotty Jo Olszewski, great grandchildren; Keenan, Aleecea, Ean, Landen, Cory, Brandon, Aspen and Reese Garfoot. He is further survived by sisters, Lolly Dickinson of Middleton, Karen Brink of Ripon, California and Aletha (Chuck) Theobold of Black Earth, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers-in-law Jerry Dickinson and Donald Brink and Kitty’s son, Craig Severson.

Visitation will be Friday March 6th from 2 to 7 PM at the Camacho-Ellestad Funeral Home, 1710 Center Street Black Earth and on Saturday March 7th from 10:00 AM until time of Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at Vermont Lutheran Church with Rev. Chad Christensen officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Black Earth Fire Department.

The family extends a special thank you to the caregivers at Ivy Manor and Kettle Moraine Gardens for the care and friendship shown to Dwayne in the past 2 ½ years. He never complained about his many health issues and was a trooper until the very end. Dwayne will be missed by his family, relatives and many friends.
