Edward Vande Slunt

Edward Vande Slunt, 85, of Waupun, passed away peacefully December 29, 2017 at Marvin’s Manor in Waupun.


Ed was born January 18, 1932 in the town of Waupun, the son of Guy and Jennie Vande Bovenkamp Vande Slunt. On January 20, 1951 he married Mary Ousterling in Brandon. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Brandon area for eight years and then moved to Waupun. Ed was employed by Westra Construction, doing masonry work for 20 years. He was then employed by the City of Waupun where he did masonry work and drove truck. He retired in 1992. After retirement he worked at Tom Dooley’s and mowed lawns for the Waupun School District. Ed was a member of First Reformed Church in Waupun. Ed loved to do yard work, volunteering for the Truckers Jamboree, and being with his grandkids.


Ed is survived by his three sons: Terry (Lu Ann) Vande Slunt of Brandon, Richard “Rick” (Kathy Ogden) Vande Slunt of Waupun, and Guy (Penny) Vande Slunt of Waupun; two daughters: Susan (Harlyn) Straks of Waupun and Vicki (Fred) Ritzema of Waupun; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.


Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 2009; an infant daughter; and two brothers: Gerald and Donald Vande Slunt.


Funeral services for Edward Vande Slunt will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 12 noon at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Monica Burkert-Brist officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Wednesday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
