Eldor C. Lau

Eldor C. Lau, age 94, of Chilton, died on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Westhaven in Brillion.  He was born on the Lau Family Homestead on March 17, 1924, son of the late Adolph & Lydia (Zahn) Lau.  Eldor attended Riverview School until the sixth grade when he began attending Trinity Lutheran School in Rantoul.  It was this church and school that Eldor called home his entire life, having been confirmed there in 1936.

Eldor married Clara Pauly at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton in 1968.

During his life, Eldor worked on his family farm in the Town of Rantoul and he also worked for the Co-Op for 28 years.

In his free time, Eldor enjoyed a good hand of cards, especially Sheepshead and Skat.  He took time out to go bowling, sturgeon spearing and hunting large and small game.  He also lovingly tended to his garden and looked for opportunities to travel wherever life took him.

In 1972, Eldor sold the family farm and moved to a home on Highway 57 just outside of Chilton.  It was from this location that he and Clara sold vegetables to friends and those passing by.  In 1996, they moved into the city of Chilton.  Clara preceded him in death on May 1, 2014.

Survivors include his stepson: Richard (Shirley) Pauly; 3 step-grandchildren: Kim (Ken) Varga, Lisa (Matt) Steffen & John (Karri) Pauly; and 5 great-grandchildren: Tyler, Jordan, Dakota, Mason, Nicholas & McKenzie.  He is also survived by a sister: Lorraine (Harvey) Bessert; a sister-in-law: Donna Lau; a brother-in-law Darol Behnke; and a special neighbor, Nancy Gerhartz.  Eldor is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Clara; his sisters: Dolores Wittmann, Betty Behnke; and a brother: Wayne Lau.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rantoul with Rev. J. Patrick Niles officiating.  Entombment will be in Knollwood Mausoleum.  Friends may call at the church from 9:00 until 10:45 am on Friday, June 1, 2018.
