Elmer A. Deitte

Elmer A. Deitte, 89, a resident of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully at home on September 16, 2013 with his family at his side.

He was born January 28, 1924 in Fond du Lac a son of the late George and Leone Wagner Deitte.

Elmer was a graduate of L. P. Goodrich High School class of 1943. He then served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 aboard the U.S.S. Robinson Destroyer, serving in the Pacific Theater.

On May 1, 1948 he married Esther G. Petrie at Annunciation Parish, Kansas City, MO.

He was employed by Giddings & Lewis Company and then operated the former Deitte Food & Liquor Store from 1959 to 1972. Elmer later worked for Mercury Marine and retired from the Wisconsin State Patrol in 1988. Elmer enjoyed sports, was an avid runner, was a Packer season ticket holder for many years, and could be seen throughout the city riding his bicycle. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, serving as an usher at St. Mary’s Church, was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #664, and was an active volunteer with Agnesian Hospice Hope. Elmer loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 yrs., Esther, two sons, Jack (Julie) Deitte of Medicine Lake, MN, Mike (Jan) Deitte of Sun Prairie, WI, two daughters, Debbie (Mark) Brezinsky of Cave Creek, AZ, and Diane (special friend Lee) Deitte of Manitowoc, WI, four grandchildren, Jenny (Nick) Von Bergon of Iowa City, IO, Brian (Betsy) Deitte of Boston, MA, Andy (Emily) Brezinsky of New Berlin, WI, and Allison (James) Constable of Cave Creek, AZ, six great-grandchildren, Claire and Brooke Von Bergon, Elise, Annabel, and Elliot Deitte, and Wyatt Brezinsky. He is further survived by a brother, Rolland (Sharon) Deitte of Arizona, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth (Rose) Deitte, four brothers-in-law, Al, Ambrose, Walter and Harold Petrie, and one sister-in-law, Eleanor Rieden.

Visitation: The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday September 20, 2013 from 9:00 to 10:45 AM at Holy Family Parish Church, 271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish Church. Entombment will be in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery. Memorials in his name may be directed to the Agnesian Hospice Hope Program.
