Elsie M. Dorn

Elsie M. Dorn, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Prairie Crossing, Sheboygan Falls on Wednesday afternoon, January 18, 2017. Elsie was born on October 12, 1924 in Marytown, WI to parents Edgar and Salome Casper Roehrig. Her family moved to rural Chilton when she was an infant and she lived there through her childhood until the family moved back to Marytown. She attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Grade School in Chilton.

Elsie was united in marriage with Raymond J. Dorn on November 19, 1945 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marytown. The couple operated Dorn’s Bar and General Store in Charlesburg, working side-by-side together for 51 years. Besides being devoted to the family business, they raised six children. Elsie had a very deep faith and spoke her faith through daily prayer and song. She was an active, long-time member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Charlesburg, where she sang in the choir. In 1997 the couple sold their business and moved to Sheboygan when Ray’s health declined. Elsie devoted the next four years to caring for her husband until his passing on April 18, 2001.

Elsie continued to be active in her church, having become a member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Sheboygan where she sang in the church choir as well as the funeral choir. She also worked many hours for the parish’s quilting club, making numerous quilts for their various missions. Elsie moved to assisted living at Prairie Crossing, Sheboygan Falls on January 31, 2009. She spent her final years keeping herself mentally sharp with daily Sudoku and word puzzles and keeping up on baseball. She was an avid Brewer fan and never missed a game on TV. She attended her last game in person this past summer shortly before her 92nd birthday. Elsie’s other hobby was that of family historian following in her mother’s footsteps and keeping accurate records of important events for a very large and extended family tree. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many, many friends and co-residents of Prairie Crossing.

Elsie is survived by her six children, James (Judy) Dorn of Wausau, WI; Chuck (Karen) Dorn of Appleton, WI; Virginia (Ronald) Dorn of Appleton, WI; Susan Allison of Sheboygan Falls; Donald (Barb) Dorn of Verona, WI; Mark Dorn (and special friend Laurie Grinnell) of Madison, WI; 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Phillip (Andrea) Dorn; Kimberly Dorn (and special friend Jon); Jeff (Jennifer), Chad (Lorie), Tim (Amy) Dorn, Trisha (Nate) Lubinski; Rebecca (Ryan) Norman, Sam (Noelle) Allison; Tony, Tyler (Alissa) Dorn; 7 great grandchildren Henry, Cameron, Ava Mae Dorn; Liam and Eleanor Norman; Hadassah and Iris Allison. She is further survived by her sister Grace (Kenneth) Wirth; sisters-in-law Alice Schwartz and Shirley Roehrig.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, parents-in-law Nick and Mary Dorn, son-in-law Samuel Allison, Sr. and her brothers and sisters-in-law Leander (Mildred) Roehrig, Edward (Doris) Roehrig, Lester (Dolores) Roehrig, Richard Roehrig and brother-in-law Carl Schwartz.

A mass to celebrate Elsie’s life will be held at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 319 Giddings Ave., Sheboygan Falls on Tuesday, January 24 at 12:00 p.m. (noon). Father Robert Lotz will officiate. Visitation will take place at the church prior to the mass service, starting at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral. The Wieting Family Funeral Home of Chilton is assisting the family. There will be a private family burial service at St. Charles Cemetery in Charlesburg.

Elsie’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Prairie Crossing, Dr. Vytas Kerpe and his staff for all their years of compassionate care for our mother.
