Esther C. Schad

Esther C. Schad, age 85, of Chilton, died on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Chilton Care Center in Chilton following a short battle with cancer. She was born February 2, 1929 in Marytown, daughter of the late Joseph & Anna (Schoenborn) Schaefer. Esther had worked at the Leverenz Shoe Company where she met her husband, Robert Schad; they were married on May 24, 1950 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marytown. Esther devoted her life to the diligent and kind care of her family. When her children were grown, she worked for a time at Tecumseh Products in New Holstein. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, formerly St. Mary Catholic Church in Marytown where she belonged to the Christian Women, and volunteered time cleaning the church. Esther always enjoyed simple pleasures in life making sure to always remain active. She tended to her garden and flowers, created delicious baked goods to share with family, fashioned hand made embroideries, and patiently cracked hickory nuts to pass the time. In years gone by, she enjoyed going to dances with her husband, Bob, on Sundays, but in recent years, spent Sundays cheering on her favorite NASCAR driver, Jeff Gordon, or watching her beloved Green Bay Packers. Above all other things that this world offered, Esther especially looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will certainly be remembered as a sweet and kind lady who took life as it came to her, enjoying each and every moment God granted her. Survivors include her husband of 64 years: Bob; her children: Andy (Terry) Schad of Amery, WI, Carol (Jeff) LaPoint of Appleton, Bev (Terry) Hackbarth of Chilton, Darlene (Bill) Hostettler of Chilton, Patty (Doug) Zastrow of Sherwood; 12 grandchildren: Nicole (Dan) Gullickson, Aaron Schad, Kim (Chad) Schilling, Kayla Schad, Tina (Kris) Karls, April (Shane) Coffey, Amy Breckheimer, Kari (Matt) Filteau, Kyle (Amanda) Hackbarth, Jamie Hackbarth, Tony Zastrow, Haley Zastrow; 14 great grandchildren: Reid, Hayden, Madison, Nathan, Elizabeth, Abigail, Treanna, Alexis, Kaylen, Megan, Natalie, Lilah, Eli, Will; 2 sisters: Helen Schad, Erma Ramminger; sisters-in-law: Judy Thuecks, Liz Quackenboss, Dorothy Schad and her special friend, Francis Krutzik; and a brother-in-law: Albert (Joan) Schad. Esther is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild: Patrick Breckheimer; brothers: infant Herman Schaefer, Erwin (Sally) Schaefer, Edwin (Josie) Schaefer, Gilbert (Virginia) Schaefer, Wilfred (Ann) Schaefer; and her in-laws: Frank Schad, Ambrose Ramminger, Joseph (Joyce) Schad, Loretta (Bill) Schuler, Sally (Russel) Lutzke, Dorothy (Romy) Wiskerchen, Marion (LaVerne) Rach, Romy Thuecks, Katie (Allen) Quackenboss, & Leroy Schad. Funeral service will be at 11:30 am on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Chilton. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A Parish Vigil Service will take place Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
