Eugene V. “Tunney” Ninedorf

Eugene V. “Tunney” Ninedorf, age 88, of Chilton, died on Friday, January 23, 2015 at his home in the Town of Charlestown. He was born November 22, 1926 in Wauwatosa, son of the late Emil J. & Florence (Harrison) Ninedorf. With the blessing of his father, Eugene began proudly serving his country at the age of 16 in the United States Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate on the USS Corregidor , CVE-58 and was discharged honorably in 1946. Following his discharge, he married Bernice Schafer on January 24, 1948 at Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Chilton. Eugene was well known for his work with his hands. He could fix anything from little electric drill motors to cranes used on construction sites. He had worked 28 years for Hedrich Construction and later worked for Lunda Construction until his retirement 16 years later. Even in retirement, Eugene wanted to continue to use his hands and picked up several part time positions and through the encouragement of a close friend, earned his GED at the age of 78. He was a member of Ebenezer UCC in Chilton, the Chilton American Legion Post, and the Plymouth Kettle Karver Klub. Eugene always wanted to improve himself and continually took classes at the technical school to hone his skills in art and carving. Being mechanically inclined, it is no surprise that Eugene loved cars, especially restoring old cars. He had also belonged to the Model A Restorers Club. Eugene also appreciated the outdoors; time spent out on walks, collecting rocks, and small game hunting brought him great joy. He also loved to foster an appreciation for the outdoors in others by volunteering time in the 4H with his children. Survivors include his wife: Bernice; children: Dan Ninedorf, Ron (Elda) Ninedorf, Lynn Selle, Jim Ninedorf; a daughter-in-law: Daisy Ninedorf; 12 grandchildren: Christina, Victoria, Katherine, LaTrisha, Michael, Benjamin, Kimberly, Ryan, Abbie, Kelcie, Heather, Derek; 10 great-grandchildren; a Goddaughter: Mandy Owen Corbett; and a brother-in-law: Ralph Owen. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Dennis Ninedorf; a son-in-law: Jeff Selle; 5 brothers: Carl (Eva), Edward (Viola), Richard (Roberta), and adolescent brothers Frederick & Donald Ninedorf; and 2 sisters: Betty (Keith) Brown & Lola Owen. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Michael Safford-Kennedy officiating.
