Francis J. Gratton

Francis J. Gratton, 88 of North Fond du Lac died Friday, January 31, 2014, at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born on January 6, 1926 in Fond du Lac the son of Frank and Pauline Mertens Gratton. On October 30, 1948 he married Patricia A. Haack at Presentation Church, North Fond du Lac.  Patricia preceded him in death on September 21, 2013. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46 in the Pacific Theatre. Francis was employed with Immel Construction, Adolph & Peterson, and Boldt Construction as a journey man carpenter, foreman and superintendent retiring after 45 years in 1991. He was a member of Presentation Church, North Fond du Lac. He was a member of the carpenters union and a past member of the American Legion in North Fond du Lac. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing cribbage, gin rummy, watching baseball, and football. Francis enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending sporting events.

SURVIVORS: Francis is survived by his  two children, Scott (Diane) Gratton, Ripon and Sharon Roberts, North Fond du Lac, a daughter-in-law Kathy Gratton, Appleton,  five grandchildren, Stacy and Richard Roberts, Amy Wilson, John and Michael Gratton,; one great-granddaughter, Grace Haggans, three sisters, Marion DeVoy, Appleton, Bernice Galle, Fond du Lac, Ruth Mauer, Fond du Lac, one sister-in-law Joan Gratton, Fond du Lac, one brother-in-law David (Mary Ellen) Haack, Fond du Lac, one sister-in-law Darlene (Syl) Racinowski, Milwaukee. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia, one son Gregory Gratton, a daughter-in-law Edie Gratton, one sister Agnes (Don) Harris, one brother Alvin Gratton and three brother-in laws Jim DeVoy, Don Galle, and Marlin Mauer.

VISITATION: Friends may call on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Presentation Church, North Fond du Lac. FUNERAL: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Presentation Church, North Fond du Lac. Reverend Joseph Dominic will officiate. Entombment will follow at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park.

A memorial is being established in Francis’s name.
