Francis Joseph Roden

Francis Joseph Roden, 94, of Fond du Lac, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2014 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home where he resided for the past seven years.  Francis was born in Kewaskum, WI on July 12, 1919, a son of Joseph P and Mary C. (Stellpflug) Roden. 

Francis attended the Roden Elementary School and the Kewaskum High School. 

On May 15, 1943 he married Hope Reimer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Fond du Lac.  She preceded him in death in 1991.  On June 24, 1994 he married Meredith Wood-Taylor also at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She died in 2011. 

Francis was a tool and die maker for Tobin Tool and Die for forty-two years, never missing a day of work.  He was a member of Holy Family Parish, active in the St. Mary’s Holy Name Society.  Francis was also a member of the Elks Club.  As a good marksman, he was a member of the Fond du Lac Rifle and Pistol Club.  He was a member of the Black Wolf Schuetzen Verein Club. 

Francis loved his time spent with family and tinkering around the house. 

He is survived by two sons, Anthony (Cathy) Roden of Fond du Lac and Timothy (Dianne) Roden of Windsor, CA; granddaughters, Shelly (Bill) Whitmore of Palmer AK, Amy Roden of Windsor, CA, Jennifer (Aaron) Habeck of Fond du Lac; great grandchildren, Haley and Sidney Whitmore of Alaska, and Noah and Joshua Habeck of Fond du Lac; sister-in-law, Lois Schroeder of Fond du Lac; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Preceding Francis in death are his parents, wives, five step brothers and sisters. 

Visitation:  The family will receive relatives and friends at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac, on Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 9:30 am to 10:45 am. 

Service:  At 11:00 am on Saturday, February 8, 2014, a Memorial Service will be celebrated at the Zacherl Funeral Home.  Deacon Larry Hughes and Pastor Dean Desilet are presiding.  Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park.

Memorials are preferred and may be directed to either the Hospice Home of Hope or the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home.  The family extends its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Michael Sergi for his continuing care of our father, and to the entire Lutheran Home staff for their tireless care and love shown to Francis during his stay.  Special thanks to Hospice Hope for their care and compassion and all the volunteers whose efforts were so much appreciated by the family.
