Gerald Bennett Palmer

Gerald Bennett Palmer, 89, of the Town of Lamartine, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012.

 

He was born on May 20, 1923, in the Town of Lamartine, a son of Alvin D. and Alta A. Bennett Palmer.

 

On October 20, 1945, he married Irma L. Hensel at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Eldorado.  They marked their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2005.

 

Gerald was a former agent for the Oakfield Mutual Insurance Company and worked at the Fond du Lac County Fair in the agriculture department.  He was a member of the Lamartine Volunteer Fire Department, the Holstein Friesian Association of America, A.M.P.I. for over 35 years, and a former A.S.C. committee member and foster parent.  He was a member of Modern Woodman of America since 1939, and also a member of Wisconsin State Genealogical Society, where he was awarded a certificate for being a descendent of a pioneer family.

 

Gerald was a lifetime member of Lamartine Methodist Church in which he was chairman of the board for over 30 years and superintendent of the Lamartine Cemetery for many years.

 

He is survived by his wife, Irma; a son, Roger (Rose) Palmer of Muskego; a daughter, Lisa (Jerome) Haser of Lamartine; three grandchildren:  Jerad, Cameron, and Keely Palmer; sister-in-law, Alice (William) Mitchell of Eldorado; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.  He is further survived by foster children:  Mark (Lois) Bauernfeind and family, of Beaver Dam, and Diane Young and family of Sun Prairie.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Alvin (Evelyn) Hensel; a sister-in-law, Elda (Dennis) Schussman; and a nephew, David Schussman.

 

The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Mach Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 31 E. Division St., Fond du Lac, with Rev. Jack Stubbs officiating.

 

The visitation will be on Saturday at Mach Funeral Chapel & Crematory from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Burial will be in Lamartine Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lamartine Volunteer Fire Department.
