Gerald “Mike” M. Straub

Gerald “Mike” M. Straub, 81, of Fond du Lac, died Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at St. Agnes Hospital surrounded by his family, from complications following heart surgery. He was born May 19, 1934 in Fond du Lac, the son of Cletus and Genevieve Watson Straub. Mike served in the US Army from 1955 – 1957. On August 27, 1960 he married Patricia E. Shannon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. Mike was a conductor with the Soo Line Railroad, retiring in 1995. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club, the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the United Transportation Union. Mike enjoyed golfing, reading, hunting, fixing things, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, an avid Wisconsin sports fan, and loved spending time with family and friends.



He is survived by his wife, Pat Straub; two daughters, Maureen (Ken) Murray of Fond du Lac and Michele (Eric) Kuhfuss of Howards Grove; six grandchildren, Jessica (Quinn) Schoeneberg, Cooper and McKenna Kuhfuss, Frank (Stacie) Murray, Tracy (Justin) Schabel, and Brittany Murray; five great grandchildren, Hollis Schoeneberg, Norah and Lucy Murray, George and Tina Hanover; one brother, John (Roxanne) Straub of California; one sister, Pat (Roger) Shaw of Waupun. He is further survived by two sisters-in-law, Sharon (Ron) Gravelle of Fond du Lac and Mary (Rick) McQueen of Fond du Lac; two brothers-in-law, Leroy Will of Waupaca and Mike (Rita) Shannon of Fond du Lac; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Ray and Rose Shannon; and one sister, Maryann Will.



The visitation will be held from 8:30 – 10:30 am on Monday, January 25, 2016 at St. Mary’s Church, 93 Marquette Street, Fond du Lac. 

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, January 25, 2016 at St. Mary’s Church. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Agnesian Hospice or Holy Family Parish.



The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Lilly, the heart team and the staff of St. Agnes Hospital ICU for their care and compassion shown to Mike and his family.
