Gordon A. Nickel, 93, of

He was born in
on June 9, 1921 to George F. and Margaret (Michels) Nickel.
Gordon was united in marriage to Rose Mary Gau on August 29,
1945 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church,
du Lac
Gordon resided and farmed in the Town of
He was a volunteer fireman and road supervisor for the Township for many
years. He enjoyed his country life including gardening, friendships and
visiting with neighbors plus family gatherings at the farm. He
always had a smile on his face when riding on his Ford tractor. He was known for his dry, witty humor. He was a lifelong member of Our Risen Savior
Church in Woodhull.
Survivors include: one daughter Joan (Garry) Curless of Stevens
Point; one son Gary (Deborah Padgett) of Plymouth; two grandchildren, Dr. Erin
(Ryan Helminen) Curless of Appleton and Stephen (Shauna) Nickel of Anchorage,
AK; three great grandchildren: Adri, Aliisa and Finn; two sisters Lorraine
Waldschmidt, Fond du Lac, and Therese Wood, also of Fond du Lac.
Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, brothers-in-law,
Henry Wood and Bill Waldschmidt.
Visitation: Family
will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, January 29, from 2:00 until
2:45 PM at Holy Family Catholic Church,
Services: A Memorial
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 pm. Father David Gau SJ, brother-in-law to
Gordon, will officiate. A reception for
family and friends will immediately follow Mass at the Church.
The family is grateful to the staff at
Hospice Hope for their compassionate care.
