Gregory Halfmann

Gregory
Matthew Halfmann, 98, of Malone, passed away on Jan 4, 2017, at the Woodlands
Senior Park where he resided for the last nine years.  Greg was born in St. Peter on Apr 6 1918, a
son of Joseph and Susan (Schneider) Halfmann. 
On June 4, 1940, he married Irene Selk in St. Cloud, Wis.

Greg’s employment life started with a short stint in the US Navy.  He and his brother Louis worked at their
brother’s, Edward Halfmann’s, garage in Pipe, then at Blakely Auto Machine as a
machinist.  From there he entered the US
Postal service for ten years, distributing mail on trains and the mobile HiWay
post offices.  In 1963 he was appointed
to the Malone post office as a rural carrier where he worked for 22 years until
his retirement in 1984.

 

Greg
enjoyed dancing, golfing, his mini fruit orchard and processing their own
meats, curing and smoking hams, bacon, sausage and fish. He is known for his
excellent grilling ability at charitable organizations.

 

Greg
was instrumental in forming and coaching the Pipe men’s baseball team back in
the late 40s.  He also coached the Pipe girls’
softball team for 13 years.

Greg was a member of St. Peter Church and Holy Family Catholic Community.

Greg is survived by seven children: Daniel (Ila) of Wausau, Douglas (Patricia)
of Exton, PA., Dwight (Donna) of Darboy, Danell Halfmann of Madison, Donald (Yvonne)
of Columbus, Diann (Tom) Matenaer of Ashford, and Debra (Michael) Freund of
Malone; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Louis
Halfmann (Dolores) of Tucson, AZ; one sister Alvina (Sr. Serena) Halfmann, one
brother-in-law, Leander (Dorothy) Selk of Sheboygan Falls, one sister-in-law,
Shirley Selk of Sheboygan Falls; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Greg in death are his wife Irene, his parents; Joseph (Susan
Schneider) Halfmann, one brother, Edmund (Evelyn Burg), five sisters, Cecelia
(Leo Franzen), Agnes (Aloys Schneider), Margaret (Clarence Schneider), Gertrude
(Elmer Kohlman) and Marie-Sr. Azaria.

VISITATION: Gregs’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Zacherl
Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac, on Friday, January 6, 2017 from
4:00 to 7:00 PM.  There is also
visitation at the funeral home on Saturday, January 7, from 9:00 to 10:15 AM.


SERVICES: At 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 7, a Mass of Christian Burial will
be celebrated at St. Peter Church, in the Village of St. Peter.

Entombment will be at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park.

The family is grateful to the staffs at the Woodlands and Generations Hospice for their loving care of Greg and his family.
