Howard “Sam” Charles Narges

Howard “Sam” Charles Narges of Waucousta, age 85, died on September 8, 2013 at
the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. He was born on December 20, 1927 to Charles F.
and Marie (nee Jandre) Narges and was baptized on January 11, 1928. He was
confirmed on June 1, 1941 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dundee. Sam served
Trinity Lutheran Church in many capacities including the church council. Sam
attended grade school in Waucousta. He graduated from Winnebago Lutheran Academy
in 1945, having attended Campbellsport High School for his sophomore year. Sam
served in the US Army Air Corp. He married Phyllis Marie Schmidt on January 28,
1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Sam worked at Narges Implement, which was
established by his father. He then owned and operated the business for 35 years.
Sam and Phyllis also built, owned, and operated Sam’s Short Stop in Waucousta
for 15 years. Sam had a special love for baseball. He played, coached, and
managed baseball for 35 years, primarily with the Long Lake baseball team,
winning the manager of the year award in 1972. Sam was inducted into the Rock
River Hall of Fame in 1980. He received the “Rock Diamond” award in 2001 and
Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. Sam enjoyed being on the Board of Directors
for the Hart-Parr Oliver Collectors Association, having sold Oliver equipment
for many years. Sam also served on the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin
Implement Directors Association and for Bank One. Sam looked forward to family
gatherings and time spent with good friends. Sam was blessed with his wife
Phyllis of 63 years and four daughters, Linda (Robert) Krebsbach of Malone, Lois
(William) Peterson of Middleton, Lana (John) Crossman of Fond du Lac, and Lisa
(Clay) Hardenburger of Waucousta. Sam is also survived by nine grandchildren,
Holly (Brian) Rabe, Alyssa Crossman, Ericka Crossman, Anne Peterson, Heidi
(Justin) Tune, Sam Krebsbach, Viktor Hardenburger, Masha Hardenburger, and
Anastasia Hardenburger, by five great-grandchildren, Jack, Eliza, and Charlotte
Rabe, and Dominic and Avery Tune, and by brothers- and sisters-in-law, Andrae
and Jenny Justmann, Joyce Schmidt, Gayl Schmidt, Elmer and Lois Schmidt, and
Carol and Ken Koth. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers,
Harold and Donald Narges, and one sister, Shirley (Narges) Justmann, as well as
his mother- and father-in-law, Otto and Erma Schmidt, and sisters and
brothers-in-law, Sylvia and William Burke, Alvin and Lillie Schmidt, Eugene
Schmidt, Jerome Schmidt, Helen Narges, and Jeanette Narges. Visitation will be
Wed. Sept.11th from 4 to 8 PM at the Twohig Funeral Home, 109 W. Main St.
Campbellsport and Thur. Sept 12th from 1 to 3 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church,
Dundee (W494 Elm St. Campbellsport). In lieu of flowers memorials are
appreciated to Trinity Lutheran Church, Waucousta Lutheran Grade School or
Winnebago Lutheran Academy. Funeral services will be Thur. Sept. 12th at 3:00 PM
at Trinity Lutheran Church, Dundee. Rev. Richard Zahn will officiate with burial
to follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family extends a special thank you
to Dr. Rajesh Trivedi, Pat and Kathleen of the Aurora Clinic in West Bend, the
staff of the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home and the staff of Agnesian Hospice Hope.
