Irene H. Duchow

Our dear mother, Irene Helene Bergelin Duchow, age 94, left this world on October 27, to be united again with her beloved husband, Harold. She was born April 14, 1923 in the town of Chilton to Albert and Hertha (Harder) Bergelin. On April 12, 1947 she married Harold at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in the town of Chilton. They celebrated 67 years of marriage together until Harold died in 2014. Together they farmed near Hilbert until they moved to Kaukauna for 38 years. Irene loved to pick hickory nuts, do puzzles, and was very active at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaukauna. She will be remembered for her delicious pies, and treats she served at all our holiday and family meals. For the last 3 years she resided at Libby’s House in Chilton where she enjoyed great care and made many new friends.

Irene is survived by two dearly loved daughters: Joyce (Jerry) Diedrich, Kaukauna, and Janet (Bill) Schroeder, Chilton; five beloved grandchildren: Michelle (Craig) Piepenburg (Tyler, Faith, Cortney, Drew), Jolynn (Ben) Ives (Emilia, Ellery, Juliana), Jill Diedrich, Jeremy (Aimee) Hostettler (Jadon, Hunter, Abby, Alex), and Ellen (Joe) Petrie (Zander); and step-grandchildren: Jane and Bill Schroeder (Brad, Billy & Claire (Carter)), Melissa and Scott McConnell (Raymond, Riley), Jeff Schroeder, and Laura and Christopher Schneider (Maverick, Tristan).

Also, Irene has three surviving sisters, Evelyn Schmidt, Florence Lemke, and Dorothy Mertz, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death are a son-in-law, Jim Schabach, a sister, Alice Bowers, and her parents.

Visitation for Irene will be Friday, November 3, 2017, from 4:30pm to 7:00pm at Wieting Funeral Home (411 W. Main St., Chilton), and again on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 10:00am until 10:45am at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church (W3102 Killsnake Rd., Chilton). Funeral services will be at 11:00am on Saturday, November 4, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Joel Brassfield officiating. A prayer service will be held at 7:00pm Friday evening at the funeral home following visitation.

The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers at Libby’s House who took excellent care of mom during her 3 years there, and especially Sandy, Bev, Ginny, Autumn, Christina, Stephanie, and Mike who helped us through her difficult last 3 weeks. Also, to Pastor Brassfield who was there for our family with much comfort in her last days. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. We will miss you, Mom. Rest in peace!
