James Robert Koertgen

James Robert Koertgen, formerly of Hoffman Estates, passed away on Feb. 13, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Residence in Naperville surrounded by family. He was born on Dec. 17, 1926 in Chicago. He graduated from St. Gregory H.S. in Chicago in 1945. James served with the 88th Army Division, “The Fighting Blue Devils”, from 1945-1946. At this time the 88th served as the army of occupation guarding the Morgan Line from positions in Italy and Trieste. He was a member of the Chicago Web Pressman Union Local #7. He retired from the Wall Street Journal in 1996. He is the beloved husband for 66 years, of the late Darlene Koertgen. Loving father of Michael (Rosie) Koertgen, Kathleen Koertgen, Timothy (Joni) Koertgen, Kristine Koertgen, and Mary Jo (Dirk, DC) Martin. Beloved son of the late Leo and Veronica (nee Craig) Koertgen. Dear brother of the late Leo Koertgen, Mary Orrell, and his twin sister Veronica Kavanaugh. Proud grandfather of Heather Koertgen, Shannon (Kevin) Varonne, Dirk, Jr. (Gayle) Martin, Justin Koertgen, and Sara Jo Koertgen. Great-grandfather of Nicholas, Charles, Mary Grace, and Lucille Beau.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton with Deacon Steve Vande Hey officiating. Burial with Military Honors will take place in the Brothertown Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 am until the time of service on Saturday, June 25, 2016
