LaVon Leona (Doberstein) George

LaVon Leona (Doberstein) George, 78, formerly of Oakfield,
embarked on her final travel destination, Saturday, November 15, 2014 from New
Glarus where she was recently residing. She was the widowed wife of Steve
George, who died in September of 1983.

LaVon was born on July 24, 1936 in Dorchester, WI the
daughter of John and Leona (Milles) Doberstein. Lavon and Steve were married on
July 7, 1956 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Dorchester, WI. Lavon graduated
from Dorchester High School in 1954 and attended the Milwaukee School of
Cosmetology in Eau Claire, where she earned her license in Cosmetology in 1955.

Lavon had a passion for travel that extended beyond seeing
the sights of remote destinations. She was interested in people, cultures and
religions. LaVon’s adventures ranged from rafting down the Colorado River to
standing at the foot of Mt. Everest; from being in awe of the Taj Mahal  & riding elephants in India to visiting
the markets of Morocco;  and walking on
the soil of her great-grandparents in Volhynia, Ukraine. Her love of travel was
passed on to her children.

Her dreams of travel arose from the pages of the National
Geographic Magazine in her high school library and came to life through many
years of international travel. Her travels took her to every continent but
Antarctica.

LaVon worked in many salons as Steve’s career in education
took them around the state. She found her true love as a travel agent in 1970,
when she started with AAA Travel.  LaVon
later worked at Wirtz World and Cole Travel. LaVon owned and operated the
Travel Company of Waupun from 1984-2010. She always remarked how ‘wonderful’
the people of Waupun treated her.

LaVon is survived by her two daughters, Jerilyn (Steve Van
Hout) of New Glarus and Tana of Madison,
two sons Steve and Wayne (Kelly Wellens) both of Fond du Lac; seven
grandchildren, Chad Giese (Natalie) of MN, Elizabeth Laudolff of Downers Grove,
IL, Stefanie Laudolff &  Allison
Laudolff, both of Oshkosh, Sydney, Shelby & Max George all of Fond du Lac,
three great grandchildren; a special sister Nancy Weis (Jerry) Stratford, WI;
and many special nieces and nephews, along with her Macedonian Family. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Steve and her parents John and Leona
Doberstein.

Family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday,
November 20, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 East
Division St, Fond du Lac.  A funeral
service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Burial will be on Friday in Medford, WI.
