Leander James Buechel

Leander James Buechel, 90, of St. Peter passed away, surrounded by family, on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the St. Francis Home, where he was a resident the past two months.  Leander was born on April 28, 1922, a son of Henry and Agnes (Schneider) Buechel.

On October 28, 1947 he married Margaret Kraus at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, St. Peter.

Leander was a member of St. Peter’s Church and Holy Family Parish, the St. Joseph Society, the Holy Name Society, Bereavement Ministry and led the rosary before weekday masses.  He was also a communion distributor and usher for several years.  He was a member of the St. Peter’s Athletic Club, formerly a director. 

Leander farmed with his wife until his retirement. 

He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, watching the Brewers and the St. Peter baseball team. Most of all Leander loved being with his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Leander is survived by three sons, twins John (Barbara) and Joe (Mary), and Francis (Kay), all of St. Peter; five daughters, Mary (Gary) Pauly of Greenleaf, Ginny (Paul) Ditter of Jericho, Theresa (Warren) Wagner of Plymouth, Lori (Dan) Diederichs of St. Peter and Irene (John) Petrie also of St. Peter; son-in-law, James Ford of Oakfield; 42 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren; one brother, Ambrose Buechel; one sister, Alice Petrie; in-laws, Valeria Buechel, Ed and Marie Schneider, Robert Giebel, Geny Kraus, Wilbert and Lillian Kraus, and Benedict and Mary Jane Kraus; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Leander in death are his wife, Margaret; daughter, Dorrie Ford; grandsons, Scott Ford and Timothy Ditter; sisters, Viola Schmitz and Millie Schneider; brother, Clarence Buechel; in-laws, Lester Schmitz, Marion Buechel, Harold Petrie, Mary Ann Giebel, Joseph Kraus, Albert and Anne Kraus.

Visitation:  The family will receive relatives and friends at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac on Sunday, March 24, 2013 from 3:00 until 7:00 PM.  There is also visitation at the funeral home on Monday, March 25, from 9:00 until 10:00 AM.

Services:  At 11:00 AM on Monday, March 25, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Catholic Church, in the village of St. Peter.  Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. 

Memorials are preferred and should be directed to the family.
