Lois P. Floyd

Lois Patricia Floyd went to her heavenly home on Friday February 9, 2018.

“Dear Saint Peter, if you are looking for a substitute greeter at the Pearly Gates, Lois would be a perfect fit — outgoing personality, Irish humor, good judge of character.”

Lois was born to Louis Immel and Tessie Bird Immel March 14,1921 on their family farm in the town of Empire. She was delivered by her father. There was no doctor within miles. No car. No telephone. Louis used his farm knowledge to deliver all 7 of his children.

Lois attended a one room grade school, a one mile walk from their home. After 8th grade she worked on the family farm and then as a telephone operator in the town of Theresa.

Just prior to WWII and his enlisting, she met Joe Floyd at the Lake Deneveu dance hall. For the next four years she wrote to him as he served our country. During that time, Lois worked at Wells Manufacturing in Fond du lac, making condensers for military planes. On June 20, 1946, Lois married Joe at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Fond du lac.

Joe and Lois built their home in the town of Forest where they lived the remainder of their lives. They raised 10 children on their farm. Besides caring for her family, Lois founded the Forest Hills 4-H club. She belonged to the Friendly Neighbors Homemakers Club and the Lois Club. She was an altar society member of St Michaels Catholic church in Dotyville and presently Shepherd of the Hills.

Lois loved to cook and entertain family and friends. She was famous for making the worlds best homemade doughnuts, bread and applesauce. One of her favorite sayings was, “I hope my house is always too small for all my family and friends.”

Having lived through the Great Depression she learned how to “make do” with what God provided to raise her family. She was an avid reader and writer. She kept her life’s journal for many years. She was also the best babysitter to her 32 grandchildren.

Lois is survived by her 10 children; Patty (Allan) Schreurs, Michael (Barb) Floyd, Stan (Kristie) Floyd, Mary Rita “Beata” (Charlie) Weiland , Nan (Gary) Gellings, Greg (Peggy) Floyd, Anita “Annie” (Pete) Andrew, John (Barb) Floyd, Rich (Jeanne) Floyd, Carolyn (Jack) Schickert; thirty-two grandchildren, forty seven great grandchildren plus three on the way, one sister-in-law, and brother-in-law Mary and Nick Dickrel, one cousin Marilyn Kaiser and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe in November of 2013, her parents, brothers; Donald, Darwin (Gladys), Kenneth (Esther), Robert (Helen) Immel. Two sisters; Dorothy (Francis) Bothe; Lucille ( Gilbert) Knauer, son-in-law; Bill Wirtz, mother-in-law and father-in-law; Chester and Anna Floyd, brothers-in-law; Eugene(Erna) Floyd, Thomas (Mabel) Floyd, aunts and uncles , great grand daughter, Marlowe Wellskopf and countless friends.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Lois’ loving caregiver and friend, Maggie, and also the staff of Heartland Hospice, especially Jackie, Erin, Kathy D, Linda and Pastor Bob, for their loving care and gentle comfort.

Lois was kind and she was fair, always finding the best in everyone and the good in everything. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

Visitation will be Monday February 12th from 1:00 – 5:00 pm at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, W1562 County Road W, Eden, with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following. Rev.
