Margaret “Peggy” (McGrath) Laue

Margaret “Peggy” (McGrath) Lauer, 59, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21st at Agnesian Healthcare’s Hospice Home of Hope. A Fond du Lac native and resident of Lamartine, Peggy’s continuously positive attitude, amazing courage and strength throughout her 3.5-year battle with cancer inspired those around her. 

She will be remembered for her caring and unselfish way, her love for gatherings with family and friends and precious time with her grandchildren, a fondness for music, cooking, good food and gardening, and her passion as a pet owner, bird lover and more.

Peggy was born Margaret Marian McGrath, to parents John “Doug” McGrath and Barbara (Burger) McGrath on June 9th, 1954. A graduate of Goodrich High School, she most recently worked in the Environmental Services Department at Agnesian Healthcare’s St. Agnes Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Lauer of Lamartine, one son, David (Courtney) Putz and their children, Drennan and Hadley of Cottage Grove. Other survivors include siblings, Patrick McGrath, Mary (Joe) Letourneau, Maureen (Steve) Klotz, and Kerry McGrath all of Fond du Lac, Kevin (Judy) McGrath of Pinewood Springs, Colorado and Brian McGrath (Stephen Brooks), of Raleigh, North Carolina, her stepfather George V. Burke, Fond du Lac, Aunt Mary Burger of Rush City, Minnesota, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews. She is further survived by one brother-in-law, John (Patti) Lauer of Venice, Florida, and their son Ben of Princeton, and one sister-in-law, Lynn Lauer of California.

She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Barbara Jean McGrath, her parents and in-law’s Francis and Esther Lauer, and Bruce Lauer.

VISITATION: The family will receive relatives and friends at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St. Fond du Lac, on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Visitation will also be held at Sons of Zebedee-St. John Church of Byron, W 5882 Church Rd. Byron, WI on Wednesday, November 27th from 10:00 AM until the time of services.

SERVICES: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sons of Zebedee-St. John Church, Byron at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 27th, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac.

The family extends its gratitude to the staff and caregivers at St. Francis Home, Hospice Home of Hope, Agnesian Cancer Center, and the Cancer Center at Froedtert Hospital-Medical College of Wisconsin.
