Marie A. Karls

Marie A. Karls, age 96, of Chilton, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Century Ridge in Chilton. She was born November 20, 1919 in Marytown, daughter of the late Moritz & Frances (Bertram) Ziegelbauer.

Marie married Mike Karls on April 11, 1944 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marytown and the couple lived and farmed together in the Town of Brothertown. During this time, Marie tended to a vast vegetable garden which she used in her homemade cooking and baking. The meals Marie made were distinctive and enjoyable, especially her delicious dressing and scrumptious pies. Her gift of cooking was also put to good use when she worked as the cook at the White Sox Camp in Brothertown.

When she and her husband retired from farming, she and Mike began traveling together throughout the United States of America taking in the many beautiful wonders of the country and enjoying each others’ company along the way. Marie also found great joy volunteering at the Salvatorian Center in New Holstein. During the many days and hours she spent there, Marie forged memories and friendships that have lasted her lifetime.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, formerly Holy Trinity Parish where she had also been an active member of the Christian Mothers assisting with many church gatherings there.

Marie was a Godly woman who exuded an upbeat personality and a heart of service to others around her. She truly cared about the needs of other people, especially the needs of her children. She was so proud of her sons who served in Vietnam and nothing brought her more joy than the presence and time spent with her family.

Survivors include her children: Rosie (Melvin) Meier, James (Sharon) Karls, John Karls, Lyle (Rosanne) Karls, Dorothy Ward; 12 grandchildren: Jim Jr., Jeremy, Jason, Jennifer & Josh Karls, Kris (Tina) & Derek (Terri) Karls, Spencer (Kerie) & Philip (Danielle), & Sgt. Matthew J. Karls, and Dylan & Emma Ward; a special neighbor: Jan Nett; and 2 special great-great nephews: Owen & Levi Ziegelbauer. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son: Joseph Karls; 2 daughters-in-law: Mary Karls & Nancy Soliven-Karls; and her brothers: Raymond, Severin, Orville, Alphonse & Bernie Ziegelbauer.

Funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Jericho. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W.
