Melvin Anthony Birschbach

Melvin Anthony Birschbach was born June 13, 1927 to Francis and Olivia Birschbach in Woodhull, Wisconsin.  He attended Brandon High School and was a veteran of World War II.  On December 29th, 1948, he married Margaret Dolan.  They had one son, Jim (Lorie), Harlingen, Texas.  Margaret passed away in 1970.  On October 13, 1971, Melvin married Janet Bell who had 3 children Kip, Tim, and Sue.  

Melvin worked for Rogersville Cheese Factory, Standard Oil of Rosendale, the Midland Cooperative, Agromatic Farm Equipment, Tim Bell Construction, and Service Motors of Fond du Lac. He served as a volunteer in many community, civic and charitable organizations.  He was President of St. Patrick’s Church Council; Knights of Columbus Grand Knight.

He worked for the Fond du Lac County Fair for 67 years, and volunteered for Walleye Weekend for over 30 years.  He spent a number of years as a Deputy with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department. Melvin was a member and usher at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Surviving family members include:  wife, Janet;  children, Jim (Lorie), Tim (Mary), and Sue; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; brothers, Donny (Janice Halbach), Harold (Linda), Stanley (Edie), and Lyle (Carol);  sisters-in-law, Catherine Birschbach, Sharleen Birschbach, Pam Birschbach (Ron), and Penny Freischmidt; brothers-in-law, Gordon Freischmidt (Beverly) and Leon Freischmidt (Rosemary); sister-in-law, Rose Freischmidt and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, Frankie, Joseph, and Kenny; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Birschbach, Margaret Birschbach, Karen Birschbach, and Rosemary Birschbach; Son, Kip Bell; daughters-in-law, Gail Bell and Bridgett Bell and brother-in-law, Gary Freischmidt.

Visitation: Melvin’s family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, and again, on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 200 S. Peters Avenue, Fond du Lac, from 9:00 to 10:45 AM.

Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, following visitation, at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery.
