Norman “Normie” G. Ries

 

Norman
“Normie” G. Ries, 85, of North Fond du Lac, formerly of Lomira, passed away
peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac.

 

He was born on April 15, 1930
to the late John and Martha (nee Mayer) Ries in the Town of Lomira on the
family farm. On January 20, 1962 he was united in marriage to Cecilia Engel at
Holy Cross Church in Mt. Calvary. Norm along with his wife and family operated
the family hog farm in the Town of Lomira. His passion was to raise purebred
hogs and did so for 50 years. He would travel to local and nationwide hog shows
and fairs, enjoying the fellowship of friends he met over the years. He was a
member and officer of many farm and agriculture organizations. He enjoyed going
deer hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family and playing with
his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Norm has touched many people’s lives
and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

 

He is survived by his loving
wife of 53 years, Cecilia; five children, Diane (Steve) Kurzer of Salem, WI,
Sylvia (Jack) Kraus of Mt. Calvary, Paul (Deb) Ries of Fond du Lac, Steve
(Karen) Ries of Lomira, and Allen (Amy) Ries of Lomira; 15 grandchildren; 8
great-grandchildren; 2 brothers in law, David (Bonnie) Engel and Bill (Laura)
Engel both of Mt Calvary; uncle, James (Mary Ann) Schaefer; aunt, Mary Schaefer
of Mt. Calvary; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

 

He is preceded in death by
his parents; step-mother, Helen Ries; sister, LaVerne (Bob) Fox; brother, Ralph
(Rosetta) Ries; nephew, John Fox; brother in law, Allen N. Engel; and his
father and mother in law, Lawrence (Leona) Engel.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church, (699 Milwaukee St., Lomira). Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 28
from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home, (350 Main St.,
Lomira) and on Wednesday, July 29 at the church from 9:30 am until the time of
service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow the service in St. Mary’s Catholic
Cemetery.
