Roman M. Kappus
Roman M. “Romy” Kappus, Jr., age 54, of Stockbridge, died on Friday, November 10, 2017. He was born December 29, 1962 in Chilton, son of the late Roman Sr. & Lillian (Stenz) Kappus. Romy married Jan Thiel on January 4, 1986 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge.
From the time Romy was a Sophomore in high school, he worked at Golden Guernsey, now known as Foremost Farms in Chilton. While there, he obtained his Master Cheese Maker’s License. He also had worked at Hemauer’s store in Stockbridge and was hired by MCO to do sewer and water readings in the Village of Stockbridge where he had served as Village President for the past 25 years. This was an endeavor Romy took very seriously and he cared well for the entire village.
He was a member of the Quinney and Stockbridge Fishing Club and was a former member of the Stockbridge Lions Club. In his free time, Romy enjoyed time spent sturgeon spearing on Lake Winnebago, playing fantasy football each year with his friends and cheering on all of his beloved Wisconsin sports teams; the Badgers, Brewers and Packers. Romy put his culinary skills to good work making sausage and hosting pizza making parties with family and friends. He also looked forward to an annual friendly competition with his friends and neighbors to see who could raise the largest pepper and tomato plants in their backyard garden.
Romy’s greatest joy in life was time spent with his beloved granddaughter, Kaylee. He went out of his way to be a blessing to her every chance he could and especially loved to hang out with her and bring her chocolate bars every chance he could.
Survivors include his wife: Jan; his children: Samantha (Brandon) Bratz, Katrina “Pete” Kappus & special friend, April Hagenow, Joseph “Putt” Kappus; a grandchild: Kaylee with another arriving soon; a brother: David (Sandi) Kappus, step mother-in-law: Joy Thiel; his God Father: Mike Ecker; an uncle: Marvin (Virginia) Stenz; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Tom Thiel & special friend: Wendy Van Roy, Peggy Moehn and fiancé Bob Wagner, Debbie (Gary) Zahringer, Lynn Bangart, Gary (Annette) Thiel, Chris (Edith) Thiel. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Romy was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Duane Kappus; his in-laws: Mary (Jack) Weyenberg & Gerald Thiel; and a brother-in-law: Terry Thiel.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 and on Wednesday at the funeral home from 9:30 am until 10:45 am.
