Steven Radcliffe Jahns

Steven Radcliffe Jahns was taken into heaven on January 22, 2013.  He was born Steven R. Johnson on June 3, 1965 in Two Rivers, WI weighing 2lbs and 14oz.  At 4 months of age he became a foster child with the Orlo and Marie Olig Jahns family.  March 23, 1982 he legally changed his last name to Jahns. 

Growing up Steve was very involved with United Cerebral Palsy of Winnebagoland and served as Poster Child from 1979-1980.  Steve also enjoyed attending Camp Sandy Wheels and Camp Wawbeek.  Despite his physical challenge, Steve always worked to be as independent as possible.  To that end he graduated for Waupun High School in 1984 and UW-Oshkosh in 2003 with a degree in Human Services.

Steve worked at Brooke Industries, Wal-Mart, ADVOCAP, and for the United Cerebral Palsy of Winnebagoland Office.  Steve served as past president and treasurer of Social Awareness in Disabilities as well as worked with the Search Committee to hire a Dean of Students at UW-Oshkosh.

Steve was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oakfield.  He was very active in Campus Ministry at UW-Oshkosh including a mission trip to New Mexico and was a current member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.

Steve is survived by three brothers, Wayne (Jeanne) of North Fond du Lac, Warren (Linda) of Fond du Lac, Wes (Marci) of Lake Tomahawk; one sister, Wendy (Paul) Dille of Fond du Lac.  He is further survived by nieces and nephews, Thad (Ann) Jahns, Sarah (Andy) Roach, Melissa (Schad) Kulibert, Shane Jahns, Shannon (Aaron) Chase, Shawna (Josh) Smith, Brett (Godson), Bryce and Blane Dille; numerous aunts and uncles, many special friends and caregivers.

Preceding Steve in death are his foster parents, Orlo and Marie Olig Jahns, maternal grandparents, Alfred and Catherine Olig, and paternal grandparents Emil and Olga Jahns.

Visitation: Steve’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac on Friday, January 25, 2013 from 4:00 to 6:45 PM. 

Services:  At 7:00 PM on Friday, January 25, a funeral service will be celebrated.  Pastor Jeffrey Duquaine will preside.  Burial will be in Avoca Cemetery on Saturday.

Steve’s family is grateful to the staff of the St. Francis Home and the Agnesian Hospice staff for their loving and compassionate care given to Steve and his family.  Special gratitude to harpist Deborah Guy for serenading Steve into heaven with “How Great Thou Art.”
