Warren B. Hess

Warren B. Hess, 89, of Fond du Lac passed away at the Hospice Home of Hope on Sunday, March 10, 2013.  Warren was born in Fond du Lac on March 5, 1924, a son of Alex and Inez (Jens) Hess.

On June 19, 1948 he married Virginia Fox at St. Michael Catholic Church in Dotyville. She died in 1991.  On July 13, 1996 he married Yvonne Mohr at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fond du Lac.

In 1939 Warren started employment with Automotive Sales and Service.  In 1954 he became vice president and manager.   In 1971 he moved to New Holstein to manage the NAPA store. Warren was a very knowledgeable mechanic and business person. He retired in 1989. 

Warren served in the United States Army for three years during World War II, both in the European and Pacific Theaters.  He was honorably discharged in 1945.    

He was a member of Holy Family Parish, the St. Joseph Bereavement Ministry, and a volunteer for 18 years at St. Agnes Hospital.  He was also a member of the American Legion, Trier Puddy Post #75 in Fond du Lac, the Knights of Columbus Council #664, and the New Holstein Kiwanis Club.

Warren had a marvelous sense of humor, enjoyed lending a hand to many, and loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was an avid golfer and bowler. Warren could be seen driving his moped around Fond du Lac even in his 80’s. 

Warren is survived by his wife Yvonne; five children, Donald (Linda) Hess of Neenah, Steven (Sandie) Hess of Fond du Lac, Jean (Peter) Look of Kailua HI, Peggy Hess of Chilton and Diane (Luke) Heindel of Wausau; 13 grandchildren, Emily (John) Zaborsky, Katherine Hess, Lori (Brian) Veley, Lisa (Shane) Pieper, Brian (Nicole) Hess, Kevin Hess, Katie (Tucker) Burr, Nicholas Look, Julia (Tonatiuh) Risso, Steven Hostettler, Sarah Hostettler, Benjamin Heindel and Kaitlyn Heindel; 8 great grandchildren.

He is further survived by Yvonne’s 8 children, Susan (Bud) O’Neill of Waupaca, Dennis (Sue Ann) Mohr of Clinton CT, Sandy (Chuck) Horien of Fond du Lac, Don (Erin) Mohr of Fond du Lac, Dan Mohr of SC, Cindy (John) Murphy of Killeen, TX, Sherry Kiser of Fond du Lac and Shelly (John) Nowak of Lomira; good friend, John Kiser; brothers-in-law, Elmer (Ruth) Fox, Jerry (Dorothy) Fox; sisters-in-law, Viola Bohlman, Mary Wagner, Bernice Everson, Donna Hess; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Warren in death are his first wife, Virginia; brothers, Alex Hess and Robert Warner; sister, Grace Friedel.

Visitation:  Warren’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac on Thursday, March 14, 2013 from 4:00  until 7:00 PM.  There is also visitation at Holy Family Catholic Church, 271 Fourth Street Way, on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM.

Services: At 1:00 PM on Friday, March 15, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Family Church.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac.

Memorials in his name may be directed to Holy Family Catholic Community or the Hospice Home of Hope.
