Wendell L. Engels

Wendell L. Engels, 92, of Van Dyne went to his heavenly home on
Wed. June 12, 2013 at the Fond du La Lutheran Home surrounded by his loving
family. He was born in Fond du Lac on Sept. 29, 1920 the son of the late Martin
and Roena Buslaff Engels. On May 6, 1950 he married Gertrude M. Hackbarth at
Trinity Lutheran Church in Dundee. They shared 61wonderful years together.
Gertrude preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 2011. Wendell served his country in
the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He worked at Giddings and Lewis for 50 years
retiring in 2003. Wendell enjoyed gardening, watching the Brewers and Packers
when they were winning and watching the weather channel.

Survivors include his daughters Nancy (special friend Rick) Bindert of Fond
du Lac and Nadine Matthies of Fond du Lac, his sons Russell Engels of Van Dyne
and Rodney Engels of Phoenix, AZ, his five grandchildren Melissa and Adam
Bindert, Jessica Johnson, and Janice and Jason Engels and three great
grandchildren Evan Bindert, Chloe Engels and Anthony Mata, his brother Wayland
Engels of Boise, ID, his sister Elaine Hall of Fond du Lac, his brothers-in-law
and sisters-in-law, George Hackbarth of Fond du Lac, Bill Hackbarth of
Armstrong, Janet and Dave Flitter of Campbellsport, Leander Lefeber of Fond du
Lac, Rose Hackbarth of Fond du Lac, Viola Hackbarth of Fond du Lac, Ivan
Vorderbruggen of West Bend and Roger Lefeber of Campbellsport, nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends. Along with his wife Gertrude and his parents,
Wendell was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law Gerald Hall and Lester and
Elmer Hackbarth and his sisters-in-law Hazel Engels, Joyce Lefeber, Dorothy
Lefeber, Mary Vorderbruggen and Beverly and Gloria Hackbarth.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Fri. June 14th from 4:00 PM
until 7:00 PM at the Twohig Funeral Home, 305 Fond du Lac Avenue, Fond du Lac
with burial on Sat. June 15th at 10:00 AM at Union Cemetery in Campbellsport
with military honors. Memorials may be directed to the Military Honor Flights.
