Wilmer J. Nennig

Wilmer J. “Willie” Nennig, age 95, of Stockbridge, died on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton.  He was born March 2, 1923 in the Town of Stockbridge, son of the late Michael & Mary (Nett) Nennig.

Willie married Marcella M. “Sally” Dorn on January 7, 1944 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton; she preceded him in death on January 21, 2009.

He began his working life on the family farmstead until 1965 when he began driving cement truck for Grogan Ready Mix.  This is where he continued to work until his retirement and even continued to drive part time beyond his “official” date of retirement.

Willie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge and the Harbor Fishing Club.

His favorite hobby was fishing; he enjoyed going out fishing in his boat in the summer as well as heading out on the ice in the winter for jig fishing and sturgeon spearing.  He took pride in tending to his meticulous yard; making sure the bushes in front of  his house where shaped just right and pruning his rose bushes that he loved so much. He also enjoyed listening to Polka music and in his younger years (and with better hips) Willie loved to go out dancing with his wife Sally.  He never passed up an opportunity to visit with family and friends to share some of his favorite stories, especially fishing stories.  In recent years, Willie appreciated moments out walking the streets of Stockbridge visiting with those whose path he crossed.

Survivors include his children: Gary (Barb) Nennig, Shirley (Ted) Sell; his grandchildren: Connie (Mike) Krueger, Dave Sell (his special friend Jackie), Wendy (Dave) Ecker, Julie (Noel) Bushor, Stephen Nennig (his special friend Ann), Brad (Liz) Nennig, Kim (Steve) Mathes, Kari (Joe) Loose; great grandchildren: Andy Krueger (his fiancée Haley), Nick Krueger, Megan  Ecker (her special friend Jeff), Mitchell Ecker, Brooke & Jayda Bushor, Landen & Austin Loose, Violet Nennig; a great-great grandchild: Harper Krueger; and his brother: Marvin (Rita) Nennig.  Wilmer is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Sally; his brothers: Michael, Ervin & Art; and an infant sister: Irene.

Funeral service will be at 5:30 pm on Monday, March 26, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge with Rev. Michael Betley officiating.  Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church from 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm on Monday, March 26, 2018.

Wilmer’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Renaissance in Appleton as well as the St. Elizabeth nurses on the 4th floor, especially Cassie, Betsy & Alexis for all of the care and compassion that was shown to both Willie and his family during this time.
