10-Digit Dialing Takes Effect

You need to use all ten digits when you place calls in Wisconsin. Up until Sunday, you could place a call in your same area code without having to dial the area code first.

That all changed Sunday.

The change affects both landlines and cell phones in all of Wisconsin’s six area codes.

The change is all due to the FCC establishing 9-8-8 as the new nationwide number for suicide prevention and mental health help.

There are at least 10 other states that still need to make the switch to 10-digit dialing.
