100 MPH Driver Blames Speed On Cell Phone

The Wisconsin State Patrol hears all kinds of excuses as to why people were speeding. The latest excuse involves a poorly placed cell phone.

The department posted about the troopers interaction with a female driver in Columbia County on their Facebook page Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

In the post, it showed a photo of the cruisers radar unit showing a displayed speed of 100 mph as it sits behind the suspects vehicle.

The driver said she wasn’t distracted by the phone, rather it simply was placed in a spot where it covered the speedometer and she didn’t realize she was going 30 miles per hour over the posted speed limit of 70.

The department used the incident to remind drivers to slow down and keep phones out of reach while driving.
