Fond du Lac Homicide Suspect Makes Initial Court Appearance

The man who allegedly killed a woman in the City of Fond du Lac made his initial appearance in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court today.

Gary Eugene Davis has been charged with 1st degree intentional homicide, mayhem and hiding a corpse in the death of Jacquelyn Jo Rooney.

Both lived at 70 east Merrill Ave where the victim was found, but in different apartments.

According to the criminal complaint, the Fond du Lac Police Department was asked to do a welfare check on Rooney on the morning of November 12, 2022 after she missed three consecutive days at a methadone clinic.

Police found Rooney deceased, wrapped in blankets and covered with other items. She had stab wounds to her head and body as well as on her hands showing possible defensive wounds. An autopsy would also reveal blunt force trauma to her head.

Investigation showed that Rooney and Davis had been in a relationship and upon interviewing other people in the apartment building, found they had been fighting and were breaking up.

On Wednesday, November 16, 2022 police conducted a search warrant in Davis’ apartment and arrested him.

In a press conference regarding the charges, Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney said We have resources here in Fond du Lac County like the Solution Center to safely get out of an abusive relationship as well as law enforcement who can be used as a step in getting away from a situation, Toney went on to say there doesn’t always need to be an arrest after contact with law enforcement but they are trained to get people to the right resources for the right situations.

Bond has been set for $2 million for Davis and his next court appearance is set for December 2.
