12 is the Magic Number in Dock Spider Win

FOND DU LAC, WI – For the second straight day, the Dock Spiders offense and pitching stayed dominant in a 12-2 win over the Madison Mallards at Warner Park in Madison on Sunday night.

The win was the third straight for the Dock Spiders, who improved to 18-15 with the win. The Mallards had their four-game win streak broken, as they fell to 18-17. During the Dock Spiders three-game win streak, they’ve outscored opponents 31-6, a plus-25 run differential.

Reed Gallant (2-1, Rice) earned the win after four shutout innings in relief with seven strikeouts, which tied his career-high set in his last appearance against the Kalamazoo Growlers on Wednesday. Ryan O’Hara (1-2, Illinois) took the loss for the Mallards.

The Dock Spiders offense recorded a run in seven of their nine offensive innings, including multiple runs in four different innings. The 12 runs also marked the most scored in a game by the Dock Spiders since last Sunday, when they defeated the Wausau Woodchucks 14-4.

After being held scoreless in the first inning, the Dock Spiders got on the board with an RBI single from Nick Mitchell (Western Illinois), his first of three hits on the day. The Dock Spiders would then take a 2-1 lead with an RBI double from Jackson Loftin (Oral Roberts).

From there, the Dock Spiders never looked back. They would score one in the third off a Grant Hussey (West Virginia) single, two in the fourth off a two-RBI single from Loftin, two in the fifth from a Mitchell two-RBI triple and three in the sixth when Bennett Thompson (Oregon) walked and Garrett Cutting (Oregon) drove in two with a single. The Dock Spiders would score their final run of the night with an RBI single from Kyte McDonald (Wichita State) in the ninth.

On the pitching side, Davis Rokose (Georgia) set a new season-high with five strikeouts over four innings. After allowing a single with two outs in the first, the Dock Spiders retired 22 of the next 27 batters before Madison scored in the ninth inning.
