2018 FDL City Budget Approved

The Fond du Lac City Council unanimously passed the 2018 City Budget with a $26.1 million tax levy. The Council’s action Wednesday night came with very little discussion after several months of work on the budget. City Manager Joe Moore related a conversation he recently had with Council President Karyn Merkel about the wrong impression people have over work associated with the budget. He says in so many places people grind through the budget and it’s a depressing season. He feels it aught not to be because a budget is really giving them the opportunity to do what they need to do in the next year to serve the public. The Council also unanimously approved a 5-year capital improvements plan and the 2018 Budget for the Fond du Lac Area Transit. Moore also highlighted the main points of the Transit Budget for the Council. It is a budget of just under $1.9 million and includes a little under $13,000 to purchase a Handi-Van. With approval of the budget the City tax rate will increase by about 14 cents to $9.66.
