37 Million Expected To Hit The Road This Weekend

A busy travel weekend is upon us, as the Memorial Day holiday weekend is largely seen as the “unofficial” kickoff to the summer season.

A recent study by Triple-A found that more than 37-million people in the U.S. are expected to travel 50 miles or more this weekend – a 60 percent increase from 2020.

With so many people on the roads, law enforcement agencies across the state and the nation are taking part in the “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement campaign.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Bill Tadych tells KFIZ News the numbers show wearing a seatbelt greatly improves your chances of surviving a crash.

“Statistics here in Wisconsin show that about 89% of Wisconsin motorists wear belts on a consistent basis. It’s clearly something that’s so important because of all the traffic fatalities we had last year, 43% of those people that were involved in those fatals were not wearing a seatbelt.”

The “Click It Or Ticket” campaign runs through June 6th.
