41st-Annual Walleye Weekend Begins Today

The 41st-annual Walleye Weekend is upon us, as
for the next three days people from all around will head to Lakeside Park for
music, food and fun. The park opens for the family festival at three o’clock
this afternoon, and if it’s music you seek, you can’t go wrong with the lineup
at Walleye Weekend according to Co-Chair Molly Jaster. “Every single band there
is free,” Jaster said. “Four stages, 25 bands, we’re bringing in Pop Evil as
the headliner on Friday night, and we’re bringing back tons of local and
regional bands – Boogie & the Yo Yoz, The Love Monkeys, Star Six-Nine, D-Willy
and the Souvenirs – so there’s really something for everyone.” Bands begin
playing as early as 5:30 tonight, with music continuing all three days. The
headliner, Pop Evil, takes the stage at 8:30 tonight.

It’s not just the music at Walleye Weekend – as tournaments,
including the Mercury Marine National Walleye Fishing Tournament, a 3-on-3 Basketball
Tournament, Bean Bag Tournament, Walleyball Softball Tournament and much more will
be held throughout the weekend. The food is also a highlight, as local
non-profits including Fond du Lac Firefighters Local 400, local Kiwanis Clubs,
the Knights of Columbus and more offer great food – with a portion of proceeds
going right back to the groups themselves. Last year, over $267-thousand was
raised for the non-profit partners of Walleye Weekend.
