Agard Bill Aims To Reduce Suicides In WI

A state Senator is proposing legislation she believes could reduce suicides in Wisconsin.

The bill from state Senator Melissa Agard of Madison would create a Firearm Self-Exclusion Program.

The Madison Democrat says that would allow people to voluntarily prohibit themselves from purchasing a handgun in Wisconsin Agard notes that most suicides are gun suicides.

The proposal is modeled after gambling self-exclusion programs in other states like Michigan, Illinois, and Iowa. With the current legislative session winding down, the bill is unlikely to advance to a vote on the floor.
