Agnesian HealthCare Welcomes New Hospitalist

Agnesian HealthCare welcomes hospitalist Marc Awada, MD, to St. Agnes Hospital, 430 E. Division Street.

A hospitalist is a physician that specializes in caring for patients while they are hospitalized. Hospitalists communicate with the patient’s primary care providers, as well as any other specialists that may be working with that patient. Patients see hospitalists regularly throughout their inpatient stay. They are available all day or night to care for patients.

“I treat every patient as if they are family,” according to Dr. Awada. “It’s important that we work with patients and their families that we follow our mission and offer care with the greatest dignity possible.”

A graduate of People’s University of Russia, Moscow, Dr. Awada completed his anesthesiology residency at the People’s University of Russia, and his family medicine residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Portsmouth, Virginia. He also has a surgical critical care residency from the University of Florida-Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. He is board certified in family medicine.

Dr. Awada enjoys reading, chess, table tennis, swimming, biking, nature walking and traveling. He is fluent in English, Arabic, Russian and Swedish, and is conversant in French.

“I love the cultural feel of this area as it feels very similar to Sweden,” he says. “I love the outdoors and all this area has to offer. I’m looking forward to making an impact in a smaller community and utilize my experience in an area where needed.”
