Alcohol Awareness Month Proclamation

Fond du Lac Police Chief Bill Lamb pinch hit for the Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County during the City Council meeting last week. Lamb accepted a proclamation from Fond du Lac City Council President Karyn Merkel proclaiming April as “Alcohol Awareness Month” in the City. In reading the proclamation Merkel noted the good work Drug Free Communities has done in getting student drinking in the Fond du Lac School District down. She says, “Through the continued efforts of Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County and key community stakeholders, we have seen a 55 percent reduction in youth 30 day use of alcohol and 61 percent reduction in youth binge drinking over the past ten years.” Lamb says police see the toll drug and alcohol addiction take every day. He says, “Drug and Alcohol abuse is absolutely one of the greatest social problems that we face in our community. Virtually all of our crimes have some component of drug or alcohol abuse. Obviously there are the addiction and health issues and everything else.” Lamb says Drug Free Communities is one of the police department’s greatest partners and they couldn’t accomplish what they do without them.
