Apparent Argument Over $18 Led to Fatal Beating

A fight outside of an Oshkosh
bar that led to a man’s death earlier this month – followed a dispute over
$18-dollars he allegedly stole from the establishment. 34-year old Christopher
Barry now faces one count of aggravated battery for attacking Steven Mallas
back on October 7th.

 Mallas died five days later.

A friend of
Mallas’ followed him out of the Boots Saloon after a claim that he took the
money from the bar owner’s brother – and says Barry tracked them down and
punched Mallas in the face. She adds that Mallas only had $4 dollars in his
wallet at the time.

Barry denied being in a fight, despite officers observing
what appeared to be dried blood on his hands.

Doctors say Mallas suffered from
fluids in his chest and bronchial pneumonia – but point to an infection from a broken
jaw as a key factor in his death.
