Artist With Fond du Lac Ties Sells Artwork For $69 Million

Mike Winkelmann is considered a “virtual artist” and creates art by use of digital illustrations and photos. His work “Everydays-The First 5,000 days” was a collage he created using 5,000 of his previous photo and digital works of art. That piece of art just sold for $69,346,250. Just shy of $70 million. Winkelmann operates under his brand “Beeple” and is one of the first to make use of Blockchain art.

Rob Milanowski tells KFIZ that Mike was born and raised in North Fond du Lac, and that Rob worked with Mike’s dad at Giddings and Lewis in Fond du Lac.

Former City Manager Tom Herre reached out to KFIZ and tells us that Mike is also a relative of Dottie Winkelmann, who was the former Fond du Lac Senior Center Director.

KFIZ News has reached out to Mike Winkelmann for an interview but we have not received any word back yet.
