One Person Killed, Another Injured In Fox River Mall Shooting

In what was described as an “active and on-going situation”, the Fox River Mall in Grand Chute, just outside of Appleton, was put on lock Sunday afternoon as the search continued for at least one suspect and possibly others, who were involved in a Sunday afternoon shooting. Calls of shots being fired started to come in just after 3:30 p.m Sunday, with reports of at least two victims, one reportedly shot in the chest and the other in the hip. Authorities asked residents and businesses in the area to shelter in place. Witnesses say the shooter did leave the scene following the shots. Sunday evening, Grand Chute Police released the following statement:

“Officers from the Grand Chute Police Department along with numerous other agencies responded to the Fox River Mall for a report of shots being fired inside the main mall corridor. It is believed that the shooter left prior to the arrival of law enforcement. A preliminary search for active threats inside the mall was completed. A thorough search is currently underway to locate and safely escort out those who had sheltered in place. We expect this to be completed by around 9:00 pm. We have identified several witnesses who observed the incident. Those individuals either have or are currently speaking with investigators.”

Early Monday morning, Grand Chute Police released the name of the suspect. Police are asking help in locating 17-year old Dezman V. Ellis, who is considered armed and dangerous. Ellis is believed to have been riding in a blue, 2012 Dodge Charger with license plate AHP7939. Grand Chute Police also released the name of one of the victims. 19-year old Jovanni J. Frausto was taken to the hospital where he later died as a result of the injuries received at the Mall.

The other victim sustained only minor injuries. At this time, police have not identified the 2nd victim.
